MATTOON — Firefighters responded to what turned out to be an unfounded alarm Wednesday afternoon in the OSF OnCall Urgent Care Clinic space.
Mattoon Fire Department Chief Jeff Hilligoss said an alarm went off at the location, 1019 Charleston Ave. East, and someone in the Mattoon Marketplace mall thought they smelled smoke. He said the alarm was later reset and no fire was detected.
Mattoon firefighters use their ladder truck on Wednesday afternoon to inspect the air handling units on the roof of the OSF OnCall urgent care clinic space.

During this service call, firefighters used their ladder truck to climb onto the roof of the Mattoon Marketplace so they could inspect the air handlers as a light snowfall continued to spit from the sky.
The presence of the fire trucks drew the attention of those from Jersey Mike’s, Starbucks and other businesses in that building. The OSF clinic has been closed for the past few weeks.
