Golden Valley officials and the Robbinsdale Area School District are working on a cooperative agreement to relocate a playground at the School of Engineering and Arts to address flooding issues in the DeCola Ponds neighborhood.

Golden Valley wants to install an infiltration pond as part of an ongoing flood mitigation project. This is just one of many capital plans aimed at reducing flooding in the area.

“What we’re trying to do here is create new flood storage in Wildwood Park and SEA school property and divert some of the storm water in that area so it doesn’t end up in people’s homes,” said Eric Eckman, Environmental Resources Supervisor. .

The SEA-Wildwood Park School Flood Storage Project is estimated at approximately $3,100,000. Based on funding allocated in the 2020 Bond Bill, the DNR will provide $1,300,000, and the city and its partners will provide local matching of $1,300,000 plus remaining funding to complete the project.

There is no special assessment for residents.
