CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) — Three construction workers died in an industrial accident just outside downtown Charlotte on Monday morning, officials say.

said crews responded to the industrial accident at a construction site on East Morehead Street. This site is near Euclid Avenue.

Medic confirmed that three people died in the crash, while two others suffered minor injuries and were taken to the CMC Main Atrium for treatment.

According to Charlotte Fire, the dead and injured were the result of collapsing scaffolding.

The intersection of East Morehead Street and Euclid Avenue is recorded as of 10:45 a.m. Monday. CFD Captain Jackie Gilmore said all construction work was halted until the investigation was completed.

Workers who were at work at the time either went to the family reunion area or simply packed up and went home. The only ones in the building after 12 p.m. are the investigators.

About an hour after the accident was first reported, dozens upon dozens of construction workers were seen exiting the building, sent home after the accident.

Few wanted to talk about their experiences inside the building where it all happened. However, neighbors learning what happened were shocked to learn that something like this could have happened so close.

“I went to walk my dog ​​and they wouldn’t let me walk down the street right outside my door,” neighbor Robert Schuster said. “The cop told me, I just kinda asked him and he said, ‘Yeah, somebody fell’ and it gives you a stomach ache. especially right after New Years like that.
