VALPARAISO — Porter County police said Thursday morning they have a suspect in custody in Wednesday night’s hit-and-run crash that injured a minor.
The driver’s identity has not been released, but police have released a photo of the vehicle believed to have been involved in the crash.
The quick capture is attributed by the department to “the perseverance and hard work of our Patrol Division afternoon and midnight shifts.”
The driver of the 2016-19 Hyundai Elantra struck a minor on a bicycle around 4:38 p.m. Wednesday on County Road 700 North in western Ind. 149, Porter County Police Sgt. Benjamin McFalls originally said.
The vehicle then fled, he said.
“The juvenile is in stable condition,” McFalls said.
The department released two photos of parts of the vehicle left over from the accident and appealed for the public’s help in identifying the driver.
According to the police, the vehicle sought has damage to the front passenger side.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police dispatch at 219-477-3000.
“More details will be available when the report goes public on Monday,” McFalls said.
“Have a great day with your families and enjoy every moment.”
