Florida man faces manslaughter charge in death of 5-year-old boy killed in impaired driving accident

A second arrest warrant has been issued for the suspected drunk driver in a crash that killed a 5-year-old boy in Florida.

LAKE COUNTY, Florida. A second arrest warrant has been issued for the suspected drunk driver in a crash that killed a 5-year-old boy in Lake County. The boy’s mother speaks exclusively with FOX 35 and she says she actually knows the man accused of killing her son.

The youngster’s mother said he was her classmate at Tavares High School. Daksh Wadhwa is now facing a manslaughter charge in the death of 5-year-old Grayson.

Wadhwa is also charged with impaired driving, possession of cocaine and smuggling into prison. Wadhwa was originally released from jail on $3,000 bail – an amount that infuriated people how low he seemed.

Even before this incident, FOX 35 discovered he had nine speeding tickets on his record, along with another reckless driving conviction.

The crash happened Saturday on County Road 448 in Tavares.

The boy’s mother, Kaitlin, is still recovering from her physical injuries, as well as the hurt of losing her baby boy.

“He was the sweetest thing,” she said. “The most awkward little boy. He was obsessed with cars, dirt bikes and roadblocks, and it’s honestly not fair that we had to lose something so perfect.”

The only comfort the grieving mother had on Tuesday was the chance to meet a family who had pulled over after seeing the car crash, rushing to try to help.

A woman named Shelley had run to wrap Grayson in a blanket and hold him.

“I didn’t even know his name, but I was just telling him he’s not alone, we’re getting help for him, he’ll be fine,” Shelley told FOX 35 News. “Family keeps saying thank you, but I don’t need thanks. I am humbled by him.”

The family says Wadhwa did not help at all.

“He was standing in front of his car and wouldn’t help us or say a word. As he watched us try to find this little boy, try to help the mother and try to save this little boy. He did not do anything. “

Kaitlin says she was surprised to learn he still has a license after seeing the list of traffic offenses he was convicted of. He still has nine speeding tickets on his record, plus two more that have been dismissed, as well as another reckless driving conviction. It was Wadhwa’s first DUI.

“I really want everyone to advise their friends and family not to drive drunk. It is not fair. One stupid decision can ruin an entire family. It’s not worth it, I promise,” the mother choked on in tears.
