JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – Jackson State’s football success has generated millions of dollars for the city and state.

If you had a dollar for every time someone asked when the Tigers would have a new football stadium, you could probably build it yourself. However, the discussions could go in this direction after two historic seasons.

“I can’t take it, so we’re going to put in a few more,” Coach Sanders said. “There’s nothing that can do that about this tune, and I don’t see any vents, anywhere soon.”

Sanders’ comment about the heat inside the media locker room after Saturday’s victory is one of many examples of his efforts to convince lawmakers and JSU to build a new stadium.

Veterans Memorial Stadium stood Jackson for 72 years and has seen several eras of JSU football since. However, now that JSU has once again become a SWAC powerhouse, Senator Sollie Norwood said it was time to act.

“Yes, I feel that sense of urgency. To the point of adding that I just left a meeting with individuals this morning. I look forward to having a public conversation about this.

After water, parking and concession issues, as well as several open head coaching positions at top programs across the country, building a new stadium for the Tigers would be one way to sway Coach Prime to stay. in Jackson.

Senator Norwood says it is up to everyone to intervene to get this done as soon as possible.

“When you look at what’s going on, what’s happened over the last two years, it’s been very rewarding for the university, [and] Towards the city. You know the publicity we’ve had for our state and the community as a whole. We are all looking to step up,” Senator Norwood said.

A quotes “community discussion” is scheduled to take place later this month to gauge the ideas and opinions of members of the Jackson community on plans for a new stadium.

Senator Norwood also mentioned that once a new stadium is built, the Veterans Memorial Stadium may be demolished to make way for new UMMC facilities.
