Rafael Nadal bloodied in freak crash in US Open 2R clash against Fabio Fognini, comes back to win despite bandaged nose

Rafael Nadal picked up yet another victory at the 2022 US Open, coming back from a set and a break to beat Fabio Fognini in the second round. An abysmal start saw the Mallorcan lose the opening set, but he found his rhythm as the game went on to seal the game 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.

More than his form, there was reason to worry physically for the Spaniard as a freak accident in the fourth set left his nose bleeding. In order to return a ball from the Italian that almost passed him, the world No. 3 attempted a stretched two-handed forehand as a last gap measure.
