The transfer window is open again and Marco Silva has said Fulham will not rest on their laurels, despite their high position in the table.
Fulham are flying on their top-flight comeback, seventh with 25 points from their first 17 games, a comeback that means they are now closer to the top four than the bottom three.
Such a solid start makes Fulham a more attractive destination for players, but Silva, speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Leicester City, believes that has been the case for some time. and added that they will look to add to the squad, if the right deals can be struck.
“We have planned the transfer market ahead of the World Cup break,” he said. “I sat down with the board and was clear about what I would like to do, to strengthen certain positions. It’s not a lot of changes to be honest. I think the January market isn’t for that, it’s for doing something specific if you can. But if the players come, they really have to add something to our team, otherwise we’re not going to do it.
Fulham have punched above their weight and naturally that will lead to key personnel attracting the attention of suitors. But the Fulham boss is also keen to keep his talented squad together. On what he would say to those watching Aleksandar Mitrovic, Silva said: “I’m really happy to have him with me. He’s really happy too. We are at the beginning or in the middle of a process and certain positions are impossible. for us to change.”
On whether key players could leave, he cut to the chase: “It’s easy. Our key players will be with us until the end of the season.”
He also added that there was no news on the outgoing players and that he had not discussed Dan James’ loan cut from Leeds United.
