The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to build their practice squad, reportedly signing DL Renell Wren there. This comes from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, who tweeted the news a short time ago.

As Fowler mentions, Wren was the Bengals’ 2019 fourth-round pick, drafted out of Arizona State. He appeared in 12 games, making two starts, both during his rookie year. To date, he has recorded nine tackles and recorded just under 200 career defensive snaps.

He joins a deep Steelers defensive line room that has kept seven on its 53-man roster. They also added Carlos Davis to the practice squad.

We profiled Wren in 2019, with our writing by Tom Mead:

“My feeling is based on his size and quickness when he gets drafted in hopes some coaches can get more out of him.”

Wren has profiled his exit from school well, fitting the mold of what the team is looking for.

Wren was the only DE in 2019 to tick all the boxes in our “what they’re looking for” study.

The Steelers now have at least 11 players on their 16-man practice squad. Check out our full draft profile on Wren below.
