Grand Theft Auto 6 leak reveals over 90 gameplay videos

In an unprecedented leak, more than 90 videos of the ongoing development Grand Automatic Flight 6 have surfaced online. The leaker posted the videos on GTAForums under the username teapotuberhacker. They claimed to have accessed it directly from Rockstar Games’ internal Slack.

The videos show robberies, gunfire, open-world driving, and conversations with full voice acting. The footage appears to confirm a recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that the game would be set in a fictional Miami – possibly the lore of Vice City of GTA – and feature a playable female character. The game is clearly in development, with debug programming elements visible on screen, but has many working features.

From the start, there was no doubt about the authenticity of the videos – they were of a scale and detail that would be nearly impossible to fake. Schreier thereafter

that Rockstar sources had confirmed to him that the leaked “early and unfinished” footage was real, and said the script was a “nightmare” for Rockstar.

At the time of writing, the videos are still available for download from the original post’s links on the GTA Forums, although Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has begun issuing copyright claims. author against videos on YouTube and social networks in order to remove them from viewing. The videos have already been so widely circulated that Take-Two’s lawyers could be fighting a losing battle trying to wipe them off the internet.

In total, there are about 50 minutes of footage. Many clips are very brief. One of the longest videos, around three minutes, shows the female character robbing a restaurant, threatening staff and customers, who react out of fear of being shot by a gun. Afterwards, she and her male accomplice engage in a shootout with the police before jumping into the police cruiser and driving off. The graphics processing is quite realistic, but still consistent with GTA’s house style.

The words Vice City can be seen in some clips. At one point, the female character walks into a strip club filled with a dense crowd. Other videos show shooting and talking systems.

The lessor said it was “possible” that they would release the source code for GTA 5 and GTA 6and even a test version of GTA 6. On the forums they answered questions regarding the source code and appeared to share legally sensitive information regarding an ongoing court case regarding cheat mods for GTA online.

Even if the leaker doesn’t track and release the source code or a playable build, this is still a very damaging leak for Rockstar on a scale that has rarely, if ever, been seen. Rockstar only confirmed earlier this year that GTA 6 was in “active development”. The Bloomberg report claimed that work on the game began in 2014, after GTA 5but progress has been slow and GTA 6 It was unlikely to release before 2024. Changes in Rockstar’s corporate culture would have reduced overtime for developers and changed the tone of the game itself, with humor less likely to hit marginalized groups.

Update: The hacker claiming responsibility for the leak responded in the GTA Forums thread, asking anyone working for Rockstar Games or parent company Take-Two Interactive to contact them. “I’m looking to broker a deal,” they said.
