A top adviser to Stacey Abrams’ suffrage nonprofit has defended anti-cop activists who torched a police cruiser and smashed windows while protesting the death of an environmental activist last weekend in Atlanta.

Marisa Pyle, senior rapid response manager at Abrams’ Fair Fight Action, who also worked as a senior executive for Abrams’ One Georgia executive committee during her failed last run for Georgia governor, s rushed to defend the anti-police protesters and the ensuing chaos. .

“You cannot commit violence against a window or a car. Kill a human? Now it’s violence,” Pyle wrote on Twitter last weekend. “Shame on the leaders of Atlanta who fall down the same tired path of protecting property while our people are being murdered by their police.”

Pyle’s tweet followed Saturday’s protests in Atlanta, which started peacefully but descended into riots that saw masked activists throwing rocks and setting off fireworks outside a building that houses the Police Foundation. ‘Atlanta. Police arrested six protesters and charged them with eight counts of misdemeanor and felony, including domestic terrorism. Two suspects posted $355,000 bond, while all four suspects were denied bail.

Activists had come out to protest the death of Manuel Esteban Paez Teran, 26, who was killed by police last Wednesday after he allegedly refused demands and fired a gun at state troopers at the site of the new Atlanta Public Safety Training Center.

The environmental activist reportedly identified as a non-binary person who went by the name Tortuguita (“little turtle” in Spanish) and used pronouns.

“An individual, without warning, shot a Georgia State Patrol Trooper,” Michael Register of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations told reporters earlier this week.
