Bret Bielema’s Illinois team is having an incredible season.
The Fighting Illini enter Week 10 with a 7-1. For the first time in program history, Illinois is ranked in the Top 25 in college football playoffs, recording at No. 16.
CFP Selection Committee Chairman Boo Corrigan spoke to members of the media after Tuesday night’s rankings were revealed. While the questions were mostly about the top 10 teams, Corrigan received a question about how Illinois’ “special season” was rated.
Corrigan is impressed with Bielema’s team, but notes that Illinois is currently missing a win:

BOO CORRIGAN: Well, I don’t know if it’s a surprise season. It’s a season. It is based on the year 2022.
Best defense in the country, very competitive, three wins against teams over .500.

If Illinois gets that win, Fighting Illini should move up in the standings.
