Disney presents King Thanos who ‘won’ Avengers: Endgame

While Marvel Studios has grown to tell its story on movie screens and on Disney+, there’s one place where the MCU has only just begun to tell its story. Avengers Campus at Disneyland California has allowed the franchise to venture into the world of theme parks, telling canon stories that fans can be a part of.

The park opened earlier this year, emulating Disney’s success with its Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge attraction by allowing park visitors to interact directly with the MCU and its myriad of iconic characters.

One name that has yet to appear on Avengers Campus is the Mad Titan Thanos, who became the Infinity Saga’s big bad and wiped out half the universe with a quick snap of his fingers. On the big screen, Earth’s Mightiest Heroes have banded together to defeat the Mad Titan in Avengers: Endgame. But a new Disneyland attraction will delve into a different version of the character, one whose plans were never thwarted by the Avengers.

As part of the D23 presentation “A Boundless Future: Disney Parks, Experiences and Products”, it was revealed that King Thanos will do “his debut in the MCU” as part of a new attraction at the Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort.

The main difference between this version of Thanos and the one seen in the theatrical MCU movies is this “won” the battle against Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.

The attraction is described to include both new and returning heroes from Marvel Studios canon, complete with beautiful promotional artwork that sports a myriad of Marvel heroes from across the multiverse.

It will be the third attraction to open at California Adventure’s Avengers Campus, allowing visitors to “join the fight to stop a new threat” in “King Thanos, a multiverse variant designed specifically for Avengers Campus.”

A multiversal first at Disneyland

This recently announced Disneyland attraction will be thrilling, not only because it’s sure to provide park-goers with the thrills Disney parks are known for, but also because it’ll venture into the multiverse, allowing fans to disassemble a new version of Thanos alongside their favorite Marvel heroes.

Now, while King Thanos may be new to the MCU, he’s not a brand new character. On the comics page, this version of the Mad Titan has been around for years.

Marvel comics have depicted King Thanos as a variant of the iconic villain who, in a quest to please death, kills nearly every living thing in the universe. From there, he becomes king of what remains. He’s a threat that all of the MCU Multiverse will have to come together to deal with, and that will apparently be the case in this new attraction.

While at this point it seems unlikely that King Thanos will make the jump from the Avengers campus to the big screen, it’s exciting to see this version of the character appear in an official Marvel Studios capacity.
