SANTA FE, New Mexico — Mexico’s new governor Michelle Lujan Grisham tested positive for Covid-19 on Wednesday, just before the Thanksgiving holiday, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

Governor Lujan Grisham is currently isolated in her residence and will not be celebrating Thanksgiving Day with family.

The governor returned to New Mexico after the 27th United Nations Climate Change Conference in Egypt on Tuesday.

“I am very grateful to have only mild symptoms after being fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19, including the last bivalent booster,” Lujan Grisham said in a statement, “Although the positive test just before the Thanksgiving holiday is disappointing, I know I’m protecting my loved ones by isolating them and not joining them for the holidays.”

Lujan Grisham also provided a statement encouraging New Mexicans to stay safe during the holidays, especially given the uptick in pediatric respiratory illnesses this season.

The governor said New Mexicans can schedule Covid-19 injections at vaccinenm.org.

This is the second time that Lujan Grisham has tested positive for Covid-19. She first tested positive in August.
